Sycomore Precision and connected forestry

Presentation

Sycomore (Precision and connected forestry) is a program issued from the 'Ambition Research Development' scheme, financed by the Centre-Val de Loire Region and coordinated by the INRAE Val de Loire center. It brings together all the regional academic and socio-economic actors working on trees and forests.

Context

Forests have a major role to play in the transition to a low-carbon economy, in combating climate change and in conserving biodiversity. But trees are suffering from repeated droughts and heatwaves. Foresters are going to have to rethink their practices so that the forests of today and tomorrow can withstand the climatic and biological risks that lie ahead.

Identifying dying forests

The RECONFORT project combines technology and observation to locate tree dieback and understand its causes.

Preparing the forest of tomorrow

Sycomore's aim is to meet the needs of the forestry and timber industry by improving scientific knowledge, developing and distributing decision-making tools for forestry professionals, raising the profile of regional forestry training offer and communicating forestry issues to the general public.

Transversal actions

To enhance the relevance, visibility and quality of research projects, the program comprises 5 cross-functional actions: governance, socio-economic development, partnership dynamics, scientific and technical culture and training.

  • Formation

The agro-sylvo ecological transition of foresters relies on training tools in line with the skills of tomorrow.
